GNV Returns to Maltese Market with New Freight Service

Italian shipping company Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) has opened a new route from Italy’s Palermo to Marsaxlokk ro-ro terminal, in Malta.

The new freight service will connect Malta with the ports of Genoa, Civitavecchia, Naples and Palermo on a weekly basis, according to the company.

GNV said that 1000 linear meters of trailers and other commercial vehicles arrived on the first call, adding that it plans to double the numbers of connections throughout the year, starting from December.

“Our priority was the reactivation of service in favor of the freight market, and the satisfaction expressed by customers is very encouraging,” Pierfrancesco Vago , member of the Aponte family and Chairman of the GNV Executive Committee, said.

“We would like to extend our service also to passenger segment as soon as possible. Thanks to the comfort of the ships and the highest quality of services on board, we believe that a medium and long-haul passenger service providing direct connections with major ports in mainland Italy can be of strong interest for the Maltese Island,” Vago added.

In 2015 GNV shipped over 1.8 million of linear meters and handled 1.5 million passengers.
